Incentives and Opportunities Signalled by Transmission Charges in Scotland

Overview

Iain Wright makes the case that the current set-up of the UK's national electrical grid does not benefit Scotland as it currently incentivises the construction of electrical generators in the south of the UK rather than in the north where the majority of renewable potential lies.

By shifting to a more decentralised system of tariffs and charges, Scotland could more easily develop industrial capacity in energy intensive sectors such as chemical production, aluminium smelting and data centres.
