One possible route for the ideas emerging from Tings to take would be a 'national policy conference' or national Ting. These are big, discursive national conferences which engage substantial proportions of the population in the process (in Iceland they had one in every 200 citizens involved and in Brazil they have involved five million people over the last ten years). National policy conferences are the end result of a year-long process of identifying issues people want to discuss and developing the questions and ideas to be considered. This could all be done through the network of Tings. The final Ting or conference is a chance for lots of people to engage in a big, high-profile, national discussion about an issue not set by government but chosen by citizens—and to influence national politics.
