The Key Ideas

#40 Seek to develop the tourism industry by stimulating greater domestic tourism

Tourism in Scotland may not be as well-served by overseas promotion as it might be. Domestically, more could be done to encourage tourism within Scotland. For example, local councils could be tasked with producing very local tourism 'offers' to market towns and villages as destinations for day trips and longer stays. Encouraging more domestic tourism would have substantial benefits, not least in creating better year-round utilisation of the tourism infrastructure we have. Improving quality through training and support would be another useful intervention.
