The Key Ideas

#41 Introduce a Land Value Tax to increase the viability of land-based industries

There are many reasons to support a Land Value Tax but one of the most important is to align the value of land much more closely to its economic value (which means the value that can be earned from the productive use of the land). If land is more expensive than any profit that can be made from its productive use it will remain a speculative investment or preserved for 'country sports'. A strategy for developing land-based industries based around the introduction of a Land Value Tax should be considered. Similarly, serious thought should be given to developing a marine industry strategy, looking at everything from the development of kelp farming to attempting to bring some of the benefits of a rapidly-developing Arctic trading route to the north of Scotland.
