#79 Locate new manufacturing close to communities with high unemployment

One national level action which could be targeted at helping communities with high levels of poverty would be to carefully consider the siting of any of the centres of employment that would be created by any of the new National Companies (or any of the other means of stimulating higher wage employment considered elsewhere in these 'key ideas'. There is much that can be done by stimulating community-led approaches and it is possible to do more to promote local economies in communities facing poverty. But in the end, the best way to help is to give access to decent jobs. If manufacturing industries can be sited near communities with higher levels of poverty or if they can be planned in such a way that there are good transport links between the communities and the jobs, it creates a genuine opportunity for communities to be regenerated through work.
